Nanyang is 13 percent cheaper than NUS, not half: run the real math

Nanyang MBA Singapore from India: Fees, Recruiting, and Cohort Realities

If you have a 680 GMAT, six years at an IT services firm and a spreadsheet where Nanyang looks "half the price of NUS", please pause before you pay anything. That premise is wrong, and the correct version of the comparison is more interesting. This post is for Indian applicants weighing the Nanyang MBA Singapore against NUS and SMU, and who need the fee, cohort and visa numbers in one place.

What the Nanyang MBA from India really costs

NTU lists tuition for the July 2027 intake at S$85,280 for the 12-month, three-trimester programme, and states that this excludes 9% GST (NTU Nanyang MBA admissions). With GST that is about S$92,955.

NUS lists S$106,849.76 including GST for its August 2027 intake (NUS MBA admissions and funding). The gap is roughly S$13,900, or 13 percent. In rupees, at the roughly ₹62 to ₹65 per Singapore dollar used in our NUS analysis, that is a saving of about ₹8.5 to ₹9 lakh. Real money, but nowhere near half.

Be careful with third-party figures too. One popular Indian prep guide quotes S$89,380 for tuition and elsewhere an all-in figure near S$110,000, and the two do not reconcile (CrackVerbal Nanyang guide). Use the school's own page for tuition, then add living costs yourself. Singapore rent is the line that surprises people, and a 12-month programme means you pay for fewer months of it, which is the genuine cost advantage over a two-year US MBA.

The cohort: small, international, and Indian-heavy

Third-party estimates put the class at about 90 students, with 85 to 91 percent international and around 15 to 20 Indian nationals. Average GMAT is quoted at 670, average work experience at six years, and the school asks for a minimum of two (CrackVerbal). NTU's own admissions page publishes no class profile or minimum score in text, so treat these as directional and ask the admissions office for the current report.

That makes Nanyang smaller than NUS, which runs a class near 120. Small cuts both ways. You get real access to faculty and the career office. You also get a thinner alumni bench in any single industry, and a cohort where three or four Indian IT-services engineers in the room is a visible overlap in your story.

If you are an IT services engineer with a 670 to 700 GMAT

You are the modal Indian applicant, and the Indian share of this class is small enough that you compete mainly with other Indians. Lean on what makes you different: a P&L moment, a cross-border client, a product you shipped. Nanyang's own pre-MBA mix, as quoted by the prep guide, is technology 20 percent, financial services 19 percent and consulting 13 percent, so technology is already the largest bloc. Your application needs an angle beyond "I want to move from delivery to strategy". Our application editing team spends most of its time on exactly that angle.

If you are a banker or CFA targeting Singapore finance

Read the visa section below twice. Financial services carries a higher Employment Pass floor than other sectors, and a 12-month MBA gives you one recruiting window, not two summers.

Recruiting: what the numbers do and do not say

The prep guide cites 93 percent employed within three months and an average starting salary of S$134,213, with 37 percent of graduates staying in Singapore, 30 percent going to East Asia and 12 percent to Europe (CrackVerbal). The page does not label the reporting year and names no employers.

Two cautions. First, S$134,213 is almost certainly total compensation, not base. The NUS figure we have seen relayed is about US$77,000 base, which is roughly S$100,000, so comparing the two headline numbers is comparing different things. Second, "East Asia" at 30 percent means a large share of the class leaves Singapore, often to roles that need Mandarin, Japanese or a prior regional posting. Indian applicants without those are competing for the Singapore 37 percent.

The Employment Pass test that decides everything

Your degree does not buy you work rights. Your first job does, and MOM sets a floor. For new applications from 1 January 2027, the minimum qualifying monthly salary for most sectors starts at S$6,000 for age 23 and rises with age; financial services starts at S$6,600 (MOM Employment Pass eligibility). Before that date the figures are S$5,600 and S$6,200. You graduate after the change, so the 2027 numbers are yours. After the salary floor there is the 40-point COMPASS test.

At a typical Indian MBA age of 29 to 31, our NUS visa and outcomes analysis works out a floor near S$7,750 a month for most sectors and about S$8,541 for financial services. MOM looks at fixed monthly salary, so a role that pays S$110,000 with a large bonus can still fail Stage 1. Ask every recruiter for base, in writing.

If you are a career switcher with under four years of experience

Two years is the minimum, not the target. The prep guide puts the average at six. If you are at three years and thinking of Nanyang because it looks easier than NUS, your age-adjusted EP floor is lower, which helps, but your profile will sit at the bottom of the class distribution. Consider whether a one-year MIM or a later application serves you better, and see our MIM and MBA guidance.

Deadlines and money

Nanyang runs three rounds for the July 2027 intake: 1 November, 31 January and 31 March, with decisions on 3 January, 18 March and 15 May (NTU). Round 1 is the better bet for scholarships, since the page says a scholarship box and essay are part of the main application. Scholarship amounts are not published. NTU does not lend to international students, as the prep guide notes, so plan an Indian bank or non-bank loan; our MBA loan comparison covers the options.

Common questions

Is Nanyang MBA better than NUS for Indians? Not on brand, and not by much on cost. The school claims the number one position among Singapore MBAs in the FT 2026 ranking on its own site, but the fee gap is 13 percent and the cohort is smaller. It wins if you value a tight class and faculty access, and loses if you need the larger NUS alumni network.

What GMAT do I need for the Nanyang MBA? NTU publishes no minimum. The prep guide quotes a class average of 670 and a recommended floor of 600. GRE is accepted.

Can I work in Singapore after the Nanyang MBA? Only if an employer sponsors an Employment Pass and your fixed salary clears the MOM floor for your age and sector.

Is the Nanyang MBA worth it from India? If you want ASEAN or Greater China roles and your target job clears the EP floor with margin, yes. If you plan to return to India, the brand travels less than the fee suggests.

Before you commit, run three numbers: your age at graduation, the 2027 EP floor for that age and sector, and the base salary of the role you want. Then book a profile evaluation, or explore our wider MBA abroad support, and compare Nanyang with SMU before you pick a shortlist.
