INSEAD is a ten-month MBA across two campuses in Fontainebleau and Singapore, with a smaller third site in Abu Dhabi. Founded in 1957, it runs two intakes a year and the largest single MBA cohort in this set.
The Class of 2027 reads roughly 1,050 students a year across two intakes, a 710 average GMAT, 38 percent women and above 90 percent international. For an Indian applicant the pull is the ten-month calendar, consulting placement out of both Europe and Asia, and the EU Blue Card path for graduates who convert an offer inside the EU, without the US visa lottery attached.
What follows is the full class profile, the 2027-28 deadlines, the honest cost arithmetic, the recruiter list and the visa reality. Every quantitative claim is cited to a primary source at the foot of the page.

What GMAT score does an Indian applicant need for INSEAD?
The 710 average understates the bar for over-represented Indian engineering applicants. In practice a score 717 or above removes the score from the conversation. Below 690 the rest of the application has to carry an unusual amount of weight, and one retake is almost always the higher-return use of six weeks.

Five two-month periods, so functional exposure is compressed.
EU Blue Card path
Employer-tied post-study visa; requires an offer above the salary threshold to convert.
What the classroom actually looks like
INSEAD runs 10-month MBA across three campuses (Fontainebleau, Singapore, Abu Dhabi). Five periods (P1 through P5), students rotate between campuses. For an Indian applicant the practical fact is that Financial Accounting anchors the first-year signal, and the elective load is what a target recruiter reads on the transcript. The distinctive feature that most changes the decision is campus rotation: Students physically move between Fontainebleau, Singapore and optionally Abu Dhabi across the year.

INSEAD MBA deadlines and interview format 2027-28
INSEAD runs three rounds for the 2027 entry. The interview format is: Two interviews with INSEAD alumni in your region, both blind, both reported to admissions. For an Indian applicant, the practical guidance is to target the earliest round the profile is ready for, since scholarship budgets are set early and shrink through the cycle.
| Round | Deadline | Decision | Interview window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 10 Sep 2026 | 13 Nov 2026 | Within decision window |
| Round 2 | 5 Nov 2026 | 22 Jan 2027 | Within decision window |
| Round 3 | 14 Jan 2027 | 25 Mar 2027 | Within decision window |
What is the INSEAD interview like?
Two interviews with INSEAD alumni in your region, both blind, both reported to admissions. It is the stage where a prepared Indian applicant most often outperforms their paper profile, because the room rewards a candidate who can hold a position without dominating it and who has done specific homework on the programme.
How many recommendations does INSEAD require?
Two, with a stated preference for direct supervisors. A recommendation from a senior name who cannot describe your work in specifics reads worse than one from an immediate manager who can.

INSEAD MBA fees, cost of attendance and scholarships
INSEAD publishes a nine-month cost of attendance, which is why the number applicants quote is usually well below reality. The honest all-in figure for an international student across two years, including summer, health insurance and one round of interview travel, sits near €141k.
| Award or loan | Value | Basis | Separate form |
|---|---|---|---|
| INSEAD merit fellowship | Up to full tuition | Merit, at admission | No |
| Need-based grant | Varies | Nationality and need | Sometimes |
| Forte Foundation Fellowship | Up to $30k total | Women in business | No |
| Prodigy Finance | Up to $200k | No cosigner, school rate | Yes |
| HDFC Credila | Up to INR 2 crore | Indian collateral | Yes |
Does INSEAD give scholarships to Indian students?
Yes, most named awards are considered at admission without a separate application. INSEAD does not publish an average award. Across our admits over three cycles the median award for Indian candidates has been material but variable, with a small number of high-GMAT profiles receiving full-tuition fellowships each year. That figure is our own editorial estimate from our client record, not a INSEAD disclosure.
Is the INSEAD MBA worth it for an Indian applicant?
On two conditions. Either you intend to work outside India for at least three years after graduating, or you are targeting Indian private equity, venture capital or a family business transition where the brand is already priced in. If the plan is a return to an Indian corporate role at Indian pay, the arithmetic does not close, and a one-year Indian MBA is the rational choice.
Where they actually go.
There is no single home base for an INSEAD class. The map is legitimately global: Europe, Asia and the Middle East each hold a real share of graduates, with the United States kept small by the visa reality.
INSEAD MBA placement geography
INSEAD is the only school in this set whose placement map you cannot compress to a single continent. Europe absorbs the largest bloc through Paris, London and Frankfurt; Asia takes Singapore and Hong Kong; the Middle East runs on Dubai. For an Indian applicant the practical question is not whether the school opens international doors, but which of three or four viable geographies you plan to underwrite through the ten-month calendar and the EU Blue Card path.
| Region | Share | Median base | Dominant sector |
|---|---|---|---|
| Continental Europe | 28% | $128k | Consulting |
| UK | 15% | $140k | Consulting |
| Asia | 22% | $120k | Consulting |

INSEAD MBA placements and employment report 2027
Across the 2027 cycle the top 8 employers listed above accounted for 341 offers into the INSEAD class. Consulting took roughly 265 of those, finance 12 and technology 54. The three MBB firms hired 243 graduates between them last cycle, which means a INSEAD candidate competing for MBB is competing mostly against classmates rather than against the school’s reputation.
Does McKinsey hire from INSEAD?
Yes, at volume. McKinsey hired 90 INSEAD graduates last cycle. Indian nationals are well represented in that group.
What is the realistic non-consulting exit from INSEAD?
The largest non-consulting cluster is technology, running through Amazon, Google and Microsoft in product and category rotations. A candidate can plan around a specific sector using the wall above, treating each employer card as its own node.

Blue Card
employer-tied EU residence permit, salary threshold applies
The EU Blue Card is employer-tied, not automatic. An INSEAD graduate needs an offer above the salary threshold in an EU member state to convert study status; the path to permanent residency runs 21 to 33 months from that point.

INSEAD MBA visa and EU Blue Card reality
INSEAD does not carry a US-style OPT window. Graduates rely on the EU Blue Card, an employer-tied residence permit issued in the member state that offers the job, with a salary threshold and a documented qualification.
Consulting and MBB in France, Germany and the Netherlands sponsor Blue Card routinely. The permanent residency clock runs 21 to 33 months from the first Blue Card, provided German or the local language reaches B1. For a graduate who wants to return to India, the school also runs a strong intake into Singapore and Dubai on separate visa routes.
| Stage | Duration | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Student visa (France, Singapore) | 12 to 14 months | Low |
| Job-search residence permit | 9 to 12 months, France | Requires programme completion |
| EU Blue Card | Employer-sponsored, member-state issued | Salary threshold applies |
| Permanent residency | 21 to 33 months on Blue Card | Language and integration criteria |
Does INSEAD help Indian graduates secure the Blue Card?
Yes, the career centre runs region-specific coaching on Blue Card thresholds and Skilled Worker equivalents for Germany, France, Netherlands and the UK. The paperwork is employer-led, so the underwriting is the offer, not the school.
The honest fit check.
A globally-mobile candidate with clear consulting or general-management targets across Europe, Asia and the Gulf, who values calendar speed and mobility over depth.
- You want the shortest top MBA calendar (10 months)
- You want a genuinely international cohort (90% non-domestic)
- You are targeting MBB in Europe, Asia or the Gulf
- You want campus rotation across two continents
- You want to avoid the US visa lottery entirely
- You want US employment as the primary post-MBA outcome
- You want a large club structure and long internship cycle
- You want a residential single-campus experience
- You are not comfortable with a compressed calendar
| Archetype | Fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Consultant to European MBB | Strong | Largest single-school pipeline into MBB Europe. |
| India return via Europe or Asia | Strong | INSEAD's Singapore campus makes Southeast Asia recruiting realistic. |
| Career switcher to strategy | Possible | 10 months compresses the switch; internship is optional and less structured. |
| US career target | Stretch | US recruiting from INSEAD is limited; visa reality is the constraint. |
How to read this
The fit read above is an editorial estimate distilled from three admit cycles at INSEAD, restricted to Indian applicants. Two applicants with identical numbers routinely get opposite outcomes; the difference is almost always the narrative rather than the profile, and the archetype table is where we set that expectation before you start the essays.
INSEAD versus.
The two or three schools most Indian applicants actually weigh against INSEAD, split by the axis that carries the decision.
INSEAD vs LBS
INSEAD
10 months, three campuses, EU Blue Card path.
LBS
15 to 21 months, single London campus, UK Graduate Route.
INSEAD for speed and rotation; LBS for London base and flex.
INSEAD vs ISB
INSEAD
10 months, roughly €115k tuition, campus rotation.
ISB
12 months, roughly $60k tuition, single Hyderabad campus.
Similar one-year length; INSEAD if the career is European or global, ISB if it is India-domestic.
How to read the comparisons
Each row above is a real choice we see on Indian applicant shortlists against INSEAD, and each takeaway is the version we give clients before they write essays. If your shortlist has a school not on this row, the axis is almost always cost, calendar, or geography; those three explain more decisions than brand tier ever does.
